and Thursday Oct 9, 9:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
PROGRAM
DESCRIPTION:
Wednesday Oct 8, 7:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Our evening
will include singing select, primary prayers such as Kol Nidre,
Shema, Oseh Shalom, Avienu Malkeinu and Kaddish. But the heart
of our time together will be a discussion. This year's topic
will be "To kevetch or not to kvetch. The art of when,
how and when not to complain. How complaining weaves into
the fabric of our lives."
Thursday
Oct 9, 9:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
9:30
– 10:15: Led by Catherine Greener
Catherine Greener will lead us in contemplative, gentle yoga
postures, designed to help us “arrive” fully in
this day. This program will combine simple Yoga techniques
with the sounds of ancient Jewish melodies, to help us delve
deeper into this day of introspection. Select core prayers,
such as the Shema, will be integrated into the flow. Please
bring a yoga mat and/ or blanket.
10:30
– 2:30: Led by Rabbi Korngold
Yom Kippur is supposed to be a day of introspection. We are
told to look deeply into our lives, to examine the past year
and consider what went well and when we "missed the mark."
Although
we are supposed to spend the entire month before Yom Kippur
doing this work and preparing. most of us don’t. Who
has the time, inclination or resources? Then, we get to services
and all too often the day turns into a page-counting marathon.
This
year will be different. During our retreat in the Community
House at Chautauqua Park we will combine:
• Chanting of select primary prayers (Shema, Oseh Shalom,
Vidui, Aveinu Malkeinu, and Kaddish)
• Private and small group goal-setting exercises
• Gentle strolls through the trails of Chautauqua parks
Through
our experiences together, combining song, discussion, private
contemplation and the indescribable peace of the natural world,
we will rediscover why Yom Kippur is said to be the awesomest
day, the “Day of Awe”
