What
Have We Done in 10 Years?
- We've
ignited the spirituality of thousands of Jews
across the world,
showing them that Judaism can make their lives
more meaningful. Our participants have gone
on to marry Jewish spouses they met at our
events, make aliyah to Israel, and go to rabbinical
school. But most important, they are walking
around loving being Jewish.
- We've
ignited a national conversation on the nature
of God with my book The
God Upgrade, which was named one
of the ten best religion books of 2011 by
Publisher's Weekly.
- We've
made connecting Judaism and the outdoors normative
in the Jewish world. Think about
it. Who knew about praying outside ten years
ago?
- We
host three popular retreats each year (Passover,
Rosh
Hashanah, Yom
Kippur), gathering hundreds of people
at a time from around the country, for an
intense, immersive Jewish community experience.
People feel like they've met their new best
friends after being on our retreat for just
a few hours.
- We've
trained rabbis and rabbinical students from
all across the US, teaching them how to integrate
Judaism and nature.
- We've
expanded our team to include Rabbi Evon Yakar
(based in Lake Tahoe, California),
who has enabled us to expand our programming
with excellence. With Rabbi Yakar, we've created
a new methodology for Bar and Bat Mitzvah
students. We now have over 60 students a year
in our program. If our program didn't exist,
the majority of these students would have
no Jewish education.
- We've
opened a branch office in Lake Tahoe, California,
in partnership with Temple Bat Yam, offering
Adventure Rabbi-style programming in California.
- Rabbi
Buz Bogage continues to help with weddings.
He is beloved by couples and allows
us to open the door to Judaism to couples
that other rabbis would shut out.
- I've
become the go-to rabbi for USA Today, CNN.com,
and have been featured
by so many prominent media outlets, that
if I named them all, I'd be bragging.
- I've
published two adult non-fiction books
God
In The Wilderness, The
God Upgrade, and one children's
book Sadie's
Sukkah Breakfast, with five
more children's books to be released
over the next three years. These books have
expanded the reach of my message to tens of
thousands of people. I've also released two
free eBooks, Mommy,
Can I Have A Puppy? and Kids
Can't Say Schehechiyanu.
- Oh,
and I married my handsome husband and we had
two really cute kids.
Why
Should You Purchase a Membership?
- We
need your help.
- We
run a lean organization where I am the only
full time employee. And all of our staff agrees
to work for much less than the going wage
for their positions because we are passionate
about what we do.
- But
we still need to pay for insurance, renting
facilities, as well as the time it takes to
put on excellent programs.
- We
are trying to wean off of grants. Grants
are unsustainable income. Funders will grant
money for two years, but seldom longer. They
also often have their own agendas, which side-track
us and leave us hanging and off on a tangent
when their money dries up.
- We
have discontinued non-profitable programs
as much as we can.
- We
have increased revenue for retreats and life-cycle
events and put our focus on revenue-producing
programs and events.
- Despite
all this, we still need to boost our income
in a sustainable way if we want to
continue programs that cost more to run than
they bring in such as:
Friday Night Services, Shabbat Hikes, Shabbat
on Skis, Tuesday Night Hikes and Learns, Pastoral
Care, Full Moon Hikes, non-retreat Holiday
Celebrations, and more.
