Guide
Training for HUC Students and
Ordained Reform Rabbis and Cantors
May 14-16, 2012
Boulder Colorado
Could You
be the Next Adventure Rabbi?
|
Join
us for three days of hiking and learning in
beautiful Boulder Colorado with the Adventure Rabbis, Rabbi
Jamie Korngold and Rabbi Evon Yakar. As we hike, we
explore ways to use the outdoors to make Judaism relevant,
meaningful, and accessible. Rabbi Korngold will share her
expertise as the founder of Adventure Rabbi Program and together
we will explore ways to use the outdoors to further engage
congregants and reach out to alienated Jews.
Rabbi Yakar will share how his work as an Adventure Rabbi
compliments and enhances his congregational work with Temple
Bat Yam in Lake Tahoe, California. We'll
discuss the new AR branch we have opened in partnership with
Temple Bat Yam and how the alliance enables both organizations
to grow. You will learn about our cutting edge Bar and Bat
Mitzvah training program and the secret we have discovered
to bringing thousands of disenfranchised Jews back into meaningful
Jewish life.
Learn
skills you will be able to take home and implement immediately
into your congregational work ..... or perhaps as the next
Adventure Rabbi.
We predict that by July 2013 we will be hiring another Adventure
Rabbi to work with Bar and Bat Mitzvah students and our distance
learning program. Could it be you? This training program will
give us the opportunity to get to know each other and help
you determine what tools you need to add to your collection
so that you will be eligible to apply for this position.
If
you are interested in joining our AR team, by this time next
year you will need to acquire certain talents and skills.

We will be based at the Mission House Lodge, which is located
in Chautauqua Park, in beautiful Boulder Colorado. The Park
is picturesquely perched at the base of the Flatiron Mountains.
World class hiking awaits us, right outside of our front door.
The Mission House Lodge is a historic house, built in the
Arts and Crafts tradition of the early 1900. The Lodge was
completely renovated in 2001. The Lodge has private sleeping
rooms, seven with one queen bed and one with two twins, all
with a private baths. Free wireless Internet is available
but there are no televisions. The Mission House features a
spacious lobby and fireplace, cozy furnishings, a large table
for group meals, and a spacious screened in porch.
Who:
We will be hiking for three days. The hikes will be moderate
by Boulder standards, but long. Therefore, participants should
be in good physical shape, which will enable them to hike
at altitude. (6,000') Please do not apply if you have
a heart condition, respiratory difficulties, or are not physically
active.
Meals:
We will be providing kosher style meals during your stay.
We can accommodate vegetarian diets but cannot accommodate
those who need meals prepared in a kosher kitchen. Guests
with food allergies may have to supplement meals with your
own food. There is a small kitchen in the Mission House.
Cost:
This program has been underwritten by the Adventure Rabbi
Guide Training Fund.
HUC
students only need to pay for their transportation.
(Meaning participants themselves, not HUC, will be responsible
for travel costs. But we've found inexpensive flights for
you. See below.) Once you arrive at Chautauqua, we will cover
your hotel room, meals, and program costs. We require a $200
deposit to hold your spot. If you come to the training and
stay the whole time, we will refund the $200.
