High Holiday Rosh Hashanah Service:
Rabbi Korngold's High Holiday services are best described as warm, engaging, and inclusive. They can not be described as long, boring, droning or preachy.

Comments from past participants include: "Wow, I never even had to resort to counting the ceiling tiles!" and, "This is the first service I have been to in years where I didn't count pages."

Weather permitting, the morning service will be held outdoors using a special service written by Rabbi Korngold. For the evening service in the chapel, and the morning if it is indoors, we use a Power Point prayerbook that we made, which is filled with nature writings and photos from our trips to bring the outdoors in.

Full Group Contemplative Hike to Service Site:
The Jewish worship traditionally service begins with songs and Psalms, intended to help us "warm-up" before we pray. On this Adventure Rabbi retreat, instead of reciting prayers, we go for a hike to warm ourselves up. We will walk together as a community, stopping often to slow ourselves down and be inspired by the majesty surrounding us. weather permitting, our service will be held in the outdoor amphitheater.

We stop for teachings and discussions and when we reach the spot overlooking the Continental Divide, we take some time for personal introspection to get ready for the year ahead. It's not too crunchy, just the right amount.

Based on the averages recorded at this time of the year, we expect temperatures between 39 and 70 degrees. Please bring appropriate gear to be outside in sun, rain or snow! We'll send a recommended gear list before the retreat and check the forecast for Ward Co before you

Staying Elsewhere:
Some participants may opt to stay elsewhere, You are welcome to do so, although we encourage you to stay at the YMCA to get the most out of the experience. There will be a $12 day use and membership fee charged by the Snow Mountain Ranch - Winter Park YMCA of the Rockies. If you want meals but are not booked into a lodge room, you may buy them at the door, cash or credit card.

Our catered dinner will once again be prepared by Steve Grindley, of The Bridal Shower Chef and More. His food is delicious and the service is friendly and upbeat. The meal is healthy and festive and includes homemade matzah ball soup.

Although pork and shellfish will not be served, meals are not kosher. We mix milk and meat but shellfish and pork are not served. Available choices on the buffet line will accommodate: vegetarian, lactose intolerant, gluten free (preference but not allergy) nut-free (but not allergy), high-protein and kosher style.
We CANNOT accommodate: Celiac Disease, severe nut allergy, or strict kosher.

Dinner Menu: (Scroll down for Ingredients)
Aunt Gertrude's Matzah Ball Soup (chicken and vegetarian options)

Grandma Lilly's Fall Green Salad (vegetarian, gluten free, lactose free)
Aunt Gertrude's Slow-Braised, Hand-Cut Beef Brisket
(gluten free, lactose free, dairy free)

Sarah T. Donner's Noodle Kugel (vegetarian, dairy)

Cousin Sandy Vinnik's Seasonal Soft-Baked Apples Baked Apples (vegetarian, gluten free, lactose free)

Nanna Fay's Roasted Carrots & Potatoes (vegetarian, gluten free, lactose free)

Tanta Lisa's Freshly Roasted Beet (vegetarian, gluten free, lactose free)

Chef Steve's Challah Rolls (vegetarian)

Lemonade/ Water (vegetarian gluten free, lactose free, dairy free)

Breakfast and lunch are prepared by Snow Mountain Ranch. Please remember, the YMCA is a Christian retreat center. Although they are happy to host us, the meals are not kosher or even kosher style. The buffet should enable most of us to pick a meal to suit our dietary needs. However, many years of retreat here have taught us that if being a flexible eater is not realistic, consider staying in Indian Peaks where there are mini-fridges and pack your lunch and breakfasts. Really the food is nothing to write home about. But there is lots and lots of coffee.

The oatmeal and cold cereal are consistently great and they generally offer eggs, fruit, yogurt, waffles or french toast sticks, tea and juice.

What people say about the retreat:

"I wanted to take a moment to thank you for creating such a meaningful weekend. Until I joined your congregation, I had never felt so connected to what being Jewish meant to me and had that reflected in my experience of attending services. Your authenticity and openness is inspiring and I feel grateful to be a part of this community."

"Both of your sermons were very appropriate, timely, and special. The hiking teaching was also great. I love that what you talk about is so applicable to our everyday lives and keeps the whole experience very down to earth, reachable, and therefore enjoyable."

"I wanted to write you to tell you that I had such a great time at the retreat. It was everything you have been telling me it would be, and more. Not only did I meet some great people but I had some major Jewish realizations as well. In fact, I'm still high off the Jewish buzz."

"The retreat was wonderful! It was so nice to have the service outside. I especially liked the time you gave us to reflect and write about what we wanted to accomplish/change for the coming year."

"Thanks for creating such a fantastic alternative to traditional services. Our family connects with doing it the Adventure Rabbi way!"

"My parents loved the retreat! I know that it meant so much for them to be there with us. My mom was wondering if she could get a copy of your sermon from the morning services. She really liked it and wanted to reread it."

"There was such a sense of togetherness even though I really only know a handful of people---- everyone seemed very light spirited, welcoming and interested in each other. I noticed this with many of the new people I met over the retreat. For me there is a nice balance of being able to be social, while also being able to experience some time with your own thoughts--- walking on the trail on the way up to morning services, stopping at the lake to let go, walking up to the "sanctuary"--- what a meaningful journey! What a wonderful way to start the New Year."

Join us and discover why Rabbi Abraham Ben Maimonides taught:

"In order to serve God, one needs access to the enjoyment of the beauties of nature, such as the contemplation of flower-decorated meadows, majestic mountains and flowing rivers. For all these are essential to the spiritual development of even the holiest of people."
