Adventure Rabbi events reach out to thousands of Jewish people each year. 90% of these are disenfranchised by conventional Jewish institutions and this is the only Jewish thing they do.

10% are highly involved in their Jewish community, serving as leaders of synagogues, Federations and other community programs.

Our web site gets hundreds of thousands of hits each month from over 64 countries.

We have created a portal back into Judaism. We reintroduce people to a Judaism that is vibrant meaningful and accessible.

Our participants come from all over the world, although primarily from Boulder and Denver, Colorado.

Our trips are filled by Jews of all ages, from infants to grandmothers, although because of our athletic focus, we primarily attract those in the 25 - 50 year-old range.

Our programs create positive Jewish identity in non-coercive, accepting manner. Here, people make Jewish friends and begin to live their lives with a Jewish backdrop. When they make crucial life decisions, like who to marry, where to live and what work to do, their Jewish experience will be part of those decisions.

Our goal is to have as few stumbling blocks as possible, to delete any obstacles that might stop someone from joining our activities. To do this we un outreach trips open which we try to:

  • Not require RSVPs
  • Not charge a fee or when we need to charge, to subsidize them
  • Not ask any commitment

How do we fund these events? How do we keep this not-for-profit organization at least earning enough money to make ends meet and support our Rabbi? Donate Now>>

  • How do we support a rabbi, ordained by Hebrew Union College?
  • How do we maintain and host a state of the art Web site?
  • How do we pay for the time it takes to create and send monthly email newsletters to keep people in touch with what we are doing? (It takes most people an year of email before they will come on a trip.)
  • How do we afford to pay for the time it takes to answer the hundreds of emails that come through our office each week, Jews eager to find a non-judgmental rabbi who will listen to them and answer their questions and complaints?
  • How do we afford to pay for scholarships for the dozens of people who say, "I really want to come on the Rosh Hashanah retreat but I can't afford it"?
  • How do we afford to pay for our office needs, from computers to telephone calls, paper clips to first aid kits?
  • How do we pay for a bookkeeper, accountant, lawyer and other professionals needed in the normal course of running a business?
  • How do we pay for the facilities we rent, for Shabbat services at Flagstaff, the Chanukah party at Chautauqua or the break-the-fast?
  • How do we pay for guides so that each trip can be properly staffed with medically trained wilderness staff?
  • How do we pay for a rabbi to spend hours on the phone with people reaching out, spiritually hungry to find rabbi that will talk to them, counsel them, advise them but mostly just to accept them?
  • How do we afford the insurance to run outdoor trips? (It costs about $200 in insurance for every single event we run)

This is our continual challenge. We generate some of our income from private trips, such as B'nai Mitzvah Retreats for synagogues and some from life-cycle events such as weddings and bar and bat mitzvahs.

But for the bulk of the income needed to support our outreach trips, we rely on donations, grants, and patrons to financially support our programs. Donate Now>>
