Hike in Rocky Mountain National Park - Calypso Cascades Loop

Calypso Cascades - Hike in Rocky Mountain National ParkWhere: Rocky Mountain National Park

When: July 29, 2006

What: Join Rabbi K. and other outdoor enthusiasts for a Shabbat adventure.

Shabbat Hike:We'll be starting at the Allen's Park Trailhead for this hike. Depending on how the group feels, we can either do an out and back 6.2 miles hike or a full loop, which is a bit longer.

Our route take us through an area burned in the forest fire of 1978. The fire created stunning views of Longs Peak, Pagoda Mountain, Chiefs Head and the mountain at the head of Wild Basin. We will also have a fascinating look at first growth forest with pioneering shrubs and wildflowers that are attractive to the plentiful deer and elk.out

We'll stop for lunch at Calypso Cascades where huge boulders catch sprays of water.

We'll pick just the right spot for our Shabbat service, the liturgy carefully chosen to enhance our outdoor Shabbat worship. As always, there will be with some time for quiet contemplation. Finally we'll head back down the trailhead, a good 4-6 hours after we began.

Price: $25 per person

Includes lunch and snacks. Entrance fee to national park may be additional - we recommend carpooling.

Meet: 7:15 a.m. for a 7:30 departure. Meet at Congregation Har HaShem 3950 Baseline (The building will not be open). We expect to be back around 4:00 pm or 5:00 pm.

Ability Level: Difficult. Please do not sign up for this trip if you are not able to hike for six hours at a sustained pace. (Although we will be taking breaks).
