In Vayigash, Joseph, after reconciling with his brothers, sends them on an important mission to fetch their elderly father. After much family drama and trauma, Joseph’s goal is to get everyone together one last time. Despite the emotional impact of this meeting, Joseph tells his brother to al tirgazu b’derech, the Hebrew translating as take it slow. They are not to rush the journey, but to be fully present and experience it.
This is a good piece of wisdom as we go into Shabbat and next week, that we take the time to take our time even, and perhaps, especially, when the stakes are very high.
(Here is the original lesson.)
