Meet Rabbi Jessica Lenza- Our first Urban Adventure Rabbi. Based in New York City, Rabbi Lenza offers lessons online and in New York City. She teaches children, teens, and adults, offering lessons in Hebrew, general Jewish studies, B’nai Mitzvah (for teens and adults), and conversion. She is also available for all life-cycle ceremonies.
She is known for making Jewish learning fun and accessible. Ask her about some of her innovative programs such as “Chozen” a hilarious Parody of Frozen and some of her adult programs such as “Bad Girls of the Bible” and “Sparking Joy in Judaism: A Class for Cynics and Seekers.”
Rabbi Jessica Lenza grew up in northern New Jersey, which is code for “we have hills and open space and are not an extension of NYC.” She first connected to Judaism as a teenager and as a result, has a knack for connecting with teenagers with their Judaism. She followed her twin passions for Jewish knowledge and music by pursuing a dual degree in Music and Religious Studies from Lafayette College. Eager for more, she went on to earn an M.A. in Jewish Studies and Smicha (Rabbinic Ordination) from the Rabbinical School at Hebrew College.
Developing her rabbinic toolbox and nurturing her burgeoning sense of adventure, she studied in New York City, Jerusalem, London, and Boston. Not surprisingly, along the way she has cultivated an expansive approach to Jewish life and experience. Rabbi Jessica loves mixing the ancient and the modern, creating a fresh approach to exploring Judaism.
Rabbi Jessica has a passion for making Jewish content exciting for modern audiences, without losing the substance. She often draws on her love of performing arts, yoga, and city life making her the perfect Urban Adventure Rabbi. A singer and guitar player, Rabbi Jessica regularly incorporates secular and Jewish music when creating sacred moments.
Rabbi Jessica enjoys podcasts and documentaries almost as much as she loves Talmud and Torah study. She lives in Manhattan with her pleasantly plump cat Dolci.
